Sashi Nchito Kateka holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) obtained from the University of Zambia and was admitted to the Zambian Bar in April of 2005. Sashi is a seasoned trial advocate and transactional lawyer, advising and representing local and international corporations in various commercial transactions. Her experience spans competition law, labour law, pensions and corporate and commercial law. She has handled and won a number of cases in her over eighteen years of practice. She has recently been instrumental in settling a long-term and highly contentious high-value property settlement dispute, following divorce proceedings for a renowned client. She has also overseen litigation proceedings and secured success for leading cement manufacturers, petroleum dealers and a telecommunications company in Zambia. Sashi has been the lead person in the firm’s provision of legal services to one of the big private hospitals in Lusaka and has provided regulatory and legal compliance advice to the Hospital in various matters. She has also represented several medical practitioners before the Tribunal of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ). Sashi has served on the Local Government Elections Tribunal in 2016 and 202, where she adjudicated election petitions. She has also served as Honorary Secretary of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and is the immediate past Treasurer of the SADC Lawyers Association, where she served from 2018 to 2022. Currently, she is Co-Honorary Secretary of the LAZ Legal Practitioners Committee. Sashi is committed to the advancement of women lawyers, having been involved in initiatives such as the International Bar Association Women’s Business Initiative Conference and the Senior Women Lawyers Leadership Program. Sashi also served as judge for the Woza Women in Law Awards in South Africa in 2019 and in 2022. Sashi is currently working on reviving the Female Lawyers Association of Zambia (FELAZ). Sashi is active in mentoring young and newly admitted lawyers and contributes to community service, as a pro-bono Board member of the Zambia Health Education and Communications Trust. She has also written articles for the World Bank publication
